Things I Love: The Welcome Home Edition

Welcome to Things I Love, a roundup of some of my favorite things from throughout the week, including a special travel deal just for readers!

This week I’ve really enjoyed being home in Chicago after two months of travel in Europe. Sometimes it takes leaving to realize how much you love your own city.

For now, I’m enjoying desk travel, and Earth View makes that so much more fascinating. The Chrome extension shows a stunning Google Earth image every time you open a new tab. Inspiring wanderlust from a new angle.

Articles that made me smile this week included this one on how Ikea’s ‘Better Shelter’ program is assembling housing for Syrian refugees, this roundup of the Best Freelance Journalism of November, the NYT list of 100 Notable Books of 2015, and TIME Magazine naming Angela Merkel ‘Person of the Year.’  Doesn’t she look like such a badass commanding the attention of a room of the world’s most powerful men?

On a completely different note, this is such a lovely ode to Lacryma Christi (with mentions of one of my favorite pizzerias!), and I tried Minibar Delivery for the first time this week. Champagne delivered to your door while you’re getting ready to go out with friends? Yes, please!

Blog crush of the week: Rosie Londoner, maybe because I just returned from the UK. 🙂

Book I’m reading: All the Light We Cannot See. How am I just now reading this?? I don’t know why it took me so long, but it definitely won’t take me long to finish it. SO good.

Travel product I’m loving: Skin Rescue Purifying Mask. Actually, this is more of an anti-travel product helping to bring my over-traveled, over-stressed skin back to life!

Quote I’m thinking about: “If you go anywhere, even paradise, you will miss your home.” – Malala Yousafzai

And finally, the travel deal of the week. In the spirit of coming home and relaxing, readers can get $25 off a massage with Zeel. Just use the promo code CHI25 when you checkout. Zeel delivers top-quality massages to your home, hotel, or wherever you happen to be. Seven days a week, 365 days a year, it’s perfect for even the busiest traveler to fit in a bit of pampering.

Have a wonderful weekend!
