68 Essential Road Trip Songs

best road trip songs

Every road trip needs a great playlist, and by great, we mean a bit cheesy, full of classics, and made to sing along to while cruising along the highway, preferably with the windows down. Some road trip songs are on everyone’s list, like Ramblin’ Man and On the Road Again. Others are more personal. These are our ultimate road trip songs, for reasons ranging from nostalgia to singability, in no order whatsoever.

Route 66 – Especially because I’m heading on a Route 66 road trip soon!

Me & Bobby McGee

Sweet Home Alabama

I Love Rock and Roll – Yes, the Britney version. Yes, I will lose points for that (especially with my dad and brothers), but….Crossroads.

Chicken Fried – So ridiculous. And yet I can’t stop playing it.

Red – Very fond memories of screaming this on a highway somewhere in rural Cuba during a rainstorm with two of my best friends and a very confused but happy driver.

I love this list! I was about to be like “Wait, no James Taylor?” and he popped up! I’d probably have a bit more Brit-Brit on mine and a few more country tunes. Another great station? Michael Bolton Pandora, because nothing says road trip like belting out 80’s rock ballads.
